Recent happenings

As the fourth of July drew upon us, Mark noticed one of the great ironies in the law. No firework stands within 50 feet of dry brush or grass. No problem putting firework stands on gas station lots though.

One day last week, Alex, Andy, and I took the car in for service before Alex's swim lesson. They finished about an hour before his lesson was to begin. So, as a treat I thought, I'll take them to Krispy Kreme's. We never go and Alex really, really, really loves their donuts.

Upon arriving, we discover we are behind a group of kids from some summer program. Do you have any idea how long it takes kids to choose their one scrumptious treat among so many tempting morsels -- let me just say we were in for a wait. Alex asked to go watch the donuts cooking on the conveyer belt. Andy kept trying to get the clerk's attention. He'd squawk, point, and stomp to no avail. Then I saw him chase after Alex.

The next thing I knew Andy had made his way behind the counter and was trying to reach and take a donut off the conveyer belt. I say, "Um, excuse me. My son's back there can you bring him around."

Clerk, "Oh! Hi, sweetie, if you go stand with your mommy, I'll give you a donut to eat while you wait."

Andy practically took out some of the kids in his hurry to return to me -- pushing them aside, begging to be picked up, staring at the clerk.

He made short work of his freeby.

On Monday, I bought some chocolate covered pretzels. They're a nice treat to munch. Andy noticed my treat and asked very nicely for one. I was agreeable. So he took it from me, smiled and put the whole thing in his mouth. Then, I heard, "Mmm. MMMMMM!!!" Followed by giggles.
