Andrew chose a Spiderman party with costumes for his birthday celebration. We celebrated yesterday the 11th because the 20th, his birthday is too close to Christmas.
We played Pin the Nose on the Clown; Car Races (disaster for the 1st time); Simon Says; Spider, Spider, Man (like Duck, Duck Goose. Andrew got it mixed up and said, Spider Spider Spider Spider Goose!); I taught them the signs for There was an old lady who swallowed a fly; and Red Light, Green Light. And my favorite thing, the Costume Parade. Each kid had a star moment as they paraded down the center aisle to the applause of the parents in the crowd -- Dash and Superman stayed in character -- Dash ran super fast, while Superman flew so fast his cape came off.
Andrew loved every minute and when it was time for the parents to pick up their kids, he was crestfallen. I had to remind him to thank them because he was about to start into a "I don't want them to go" thing.
Ryan maintained his place in the thick of things. He just took a sticker and walked up to the clown and when it was time for Red Light, Green Light he slowly sauntered to the other end of the room as if he had all the time in the world.
It was so fun -- no tears, no tantrums (except RyGuy), and lots of delighted 3 & 4 year olds.
