Let's start with the oldest. Alex had an excellent progress report academically. He needs to work on "not calling out" aka hand raising, waiting his turn to speak, instead of interrupting constantly. It was also mentioned that on occasion, Alex can be found laying on the floor under his desk. It was sweetly requested that Alex not continue to lay on the floor under his desk. Very difficult impulse to control, sprawling oneself out on the floor.
Andrew has no progress report. But I hear that all is well.
Sean and Ryan on the other hand each had a 3 page chart filled with yellow, gray and white squares. They had a lot of yellow on their papers -- things were either going well or going very very poorly. Their teacher explained that they are on the birth to 36 month scale (they are 37 months old) and the yellow squares were the skills they'd mastered since birth. Her main objective is for them to 'graduate' to the 3 year to 5 year old scale by the end of the school year. I don't know if they'll be able to do it all but they do have a good 6-7 months left to give it a go.
She did mention that they've realized Sean requires a lot more one to one instruction than the other kids. Ryan is following instructions as well as he understands them. So if he's told to color the ball blue, he may or may not pick up a crayon and color something on the paper...
Then I learned from another mom just how they came to understand Sean's need for one to one instruction. This mom was volunteering in kindergarten when over the loud speaker, she heard, "Attention, everyone please stop what you are doing. We have lost Sean Devlin. He's a 3 year old preschooler with blond hair. He has on a red shirt." During this announcement, the mom said in walked Sean to kindergarten. She said, "Well that's definitely Sean. He's the twin with the slight scowl most of the time."
The preschool has 1 teacher and 5 aides and about 10 kids. They've learned just how fast Sean can be. The teacher said that they know to make sure someone always is aware of Sean's whereabouts. Since the escape, he's tried 2 more times to get out of Dodge.
